Another foggy morning. Things are starting to look familiar. Starting to look suspiciously like the old tramping grounds.

And once the fog burned away, the first real day of clear skies and sun that I can remember in forever.

I decided that even though I won’t do my planned loop, I will do an out-and-back to check out Blue Waterholes since the weather is so nice. It adds an extra 6km, but I left most of my food and overnight gear in a drybag near the turn off, so I’m not carrying much. Rod continued along the main track.

Blue Waterholes was very cool, though the signage and manicured paths were a stark contrast to the last few hundred km.

Oldfield’s hut and Bimberi. The ACT/NSW border comes across the top of Bimberi and down through Murray’s gap.

There were lots of familiar names in the hut’s log book. Southbounders I met in passing and Northbounders who overtook me. Matt was in there, and Hannah of the 4000km, and the “four non blonds” with their Aarn packs, and Tracey and David who must have been only a few hours ahead. It’s the last (or first) hut on the trail. I’ve become quite fond of these rough-hewn shacks of tin and local timber.

At Murray’s gap I leave Kosciusko National Park and NSW, and enter Namadgi and the ACT.

And caught up with Rod. We had a few surprise dinner guests:

In the morning I’ll do Bimberi with minimal pack weight as a there-and-back, then continue on the track. It should be another largish day.
