The rain started lightly around 8pm last night. Shortly before midnight it ramped up to downpour levels and the wind kicked in. It settled in like that and stayed that way until after sunrise. Around 9am it eased back into a steady shower with occasional gusts and made every indication that it plans to continue with variations on this theme for most of the day. We’ve pretty much resigned ourselves to staying in the cabin today.
Rod stayed in his tent all night but only managed a few hours of sleep. I had the fire built up for him by the time he came in.
You can see Valentine’s creek from the hut. Rather, yesterday you could see the valley it runs through; today you can see the creek. When we leave here we have to cross it.

I’ve tidied the hut and had breakfast, coffee and a cup of tea. It’s only 9:15.
Around noon the rain reduced to intermittent showers. We were able to wander over and have a look at Valentine’s creek. It’s looking pretty bloody daunting. Hopefully it will drop a fair bit overnight.

I decided to while away the hours whittling a brumby. It killed some time, even though I didn’t finish it.

With all the maturity of a younger sibling, Rod decided he had to be part of the excitement too. I fear the sleep deprivation and cabin fever have got to him.
