Day 17 – Muddy Water Blues

25.29km +1632m -566m

Coffee from the hammock on a foggy morning.

Macropods!
Ahh, the good old 585 model. Shame about the axle problems that plagued it.

We got honked at by a deer. It sounded like an angry Mac truck in heat.

Morass creek (more-arse). Don’t drink the water here.

I had my towel threaded through my shoulder strap loops and it must have got hooked on a branch while we were bush bashing. It’s gone now.

Which is a shame, because it would have been handy for drying my feet after the creek crossing ten minutes later.

Food drop! Now my pack is heavy again 🙁 and I’ve got 14km and about 1000m to tonight’s camp at Johnnie’s Top.

Thanks Ron. It’s like dry peanut butter without the flavour.
Tastes like sour gummy bears

Most of the day’s walking wasn’t terribly photogenic.

Echidna

We reached the day’s destination of Johnnie’s Top. A water tank makes it a decent place to stop, though apparently the massive comms tower has a generator building which turns on and off at random. The thick fire regrowth also blocks any potential views.

Dinner was a downright crowded affair. Also camping there that night we’re Julianne and Chris, who are each separately walking the track southbound. It turns out that between us a Canberran and a Melbournite were walking in each direction, and we happened to all meet near the halfway point.

I shared some of my metwurst and added much of the rest to my dinner, which was a very welcome addition.

There is rain in the forecast for a few days from now. We shall see.
