Day 15 – Snake eyes watching you

Passed a very pleasant night in Cleve Cole. Cut some firewood for the hut in the afternoon for lack of anything better to do, then had a merry little fire to warm the old stones.

Seems to be shaping up to be a nice day. I’m tempted to detour to Howman’s Falls, but I’m vaguely considering making for the disappeared ghost town of Sunnyside, which would be a longish day on its own.

Eh, when’s the next time I’ll be here? Maybe I can bush bash back to the trail.

A deeply unsettling climb down brings you closer to the falls.

Weird fuckin’ cloud
Those mountain men sure knew how to build a picnic table.

Back below the snow gums and into mountain ash (I think?) again.

Then a long climb up Mount Wills. A couple of blokes with Telstra vehicles were up there doing maintenance in the tower’s infrastructure building. There are good views from the granite outcrop the tower is built on.

Back towards Bogong
Mount Wills Hut
Om nom nom

I’m not terribly familiar with copperheads, but I think this must be one. Beautiful coal black scales and a creamy belly.

Five minutes later. Gaiters on, I guess.

I lost the trail a number of times on the way down from Mount Wills.

Onto Omeo hwy and down to Sunnyside.

I’d expected Rod to be at Sunnyside, but couldn’t find him there. I guess having done a short day of walking and resupplied he decided to press on. I got camp set up just in time for a few specks of rain to hit the tarp, and cooked dinner from my hammock.
